DR. Andrea Reinecke
research clinical psychologist
Head of the oxited Group

I am a clinical psychologist with a PhD in Experimental Psychology, working as a Senior Research Fellow at the Department of Psychiatry, University of Oxford. My interdisciplinary research approach brings together clinical psychology, pharmacology and neurobiology to identify the cognitive and biological mechanisms underlying anxiety development and recovery. Such knowledge is essential to identify potential synergistic effects and to logically combine different treatments, which will allow us to condense different intervention forms into innovative and more economic formats. My work is funded by an MQ fellowship and research grants from the Oxfordshire Health Services Research Committee (OHSRC), the Oxford University Press John-Fell fund, and the Medical Research Council (MRC).

THEODORA THORODDSEN
DPhIL STUDENT 2018

I am currently working on a DPhil in Psychiatry at the University of Oxford, and my research explores how the antihypertensive drug losartan impacts emotional processing, memory, and fear acquisition and extinction in human participants, using behavioural and functional
brain imaging approaches. Previously, I completed a BSc-degree in Psychology at the University of Iceland, while also studying Cognitive Neuroscience at Stanford University and Columbia University. I then completed a MSc-degree in Cognitive Neuroscience at the University of York and graduated With Distinction. I am also very invested in public engagement, being a co-founder and editor of an educational mental health information website for the public in Iceland. I am also trained in plant-based nutrition and am a certified personal trainer.

LORIKA SHKRELI
DPHIL STUDENT 2019

I graduated in Psychology and Cognitive Neurosciences from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany and visited Andrea’s lab during my MSc 2018, where I investigated the effects of the angiotensin-II antagonist losartan on cognitive processing relevant in anxiety and depression. I will start my DPhil with Andrea in October 2019. My main research interest is to take a step towards an integrated neurobiological understanding of anxiety and depression, by linking these disorders to growth factors, which may represent an underlying vulnerability biomarker for disorder onset. The long-term goal of this work is to identify patients with biological vulnerability, who might not respond well to current psychological treatment, to enhance therapeutic effects of such interventions by short-term targeted administration of drugs like losartan.
