what is the study about?
The majority of anxiety diagnoses start before the age of 18. One in five students in a year-12 classrooms are likely to have an anxiety disorder, but only a small proportion of these will have access to treatment, and only 1 in 3 of those treated will get better! This study aims to start exploring whether a protein naturally occurring in the body may be able to predict how likely a person is to develop anxiety in the future. Such information would help the more efficient planning of strategies that may prevent the development of an anxiety disorder in young people.
We are looking for healthy participants aged 16-35 years to come to Oxford for one session (~3 1/2 hrs), to give a small blood sample and work on a series of computer games. We pay for time and travel expenses. The study will run over the next year, weekend and evening appointments may be available to school-aged participants. Parental approval will be required for anyone under 18 years old.
